Suicide is the second leading cause of death for youth ages 10-34 years in the United States as of 2017. The More Than Sad Program was developed by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Using their research and national numbers, this training helps caregivers identify ways to start the conversation of suicide with professionals and youth, know the warning signs, and be able to develop crisis plans for the youth they encounter. It is aligned with SB323 Jason Flatt Suicide Awareness Act and provides resources that can be used across the state.
