#CLEMENCYWORKSCT is a National Statewide Clemency campaign created by The National Council for Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls (TNC) and organized here in CT by Women Against Mass Incarceration (WAMI).
Women Against Mass Incarceration (WAMI) is a non-profit organization empowering formerly Incarcerated, trauma survived, justice-impacted women, girls, and families through advocacy, political education, and re-entry to end mass incarceration. Our efforts include (but are not limited to) reimagining communities through clemency work, panel discussions, participatory defense movement, mentoring, life coaching, advocacy, campaigns, family reunification, and more.
We are urging Connecticut's Governor Ned Lamont and the CT Board of Pardon and Parole to use their clemency power NOW!
We are seeking to have clemency/ sentencing commutation granted specifically to imprisoned women that meet the following criteria:
Elderly
Infirmed
Serving long-term sentences (minimum of 10 years behind bars)
Survived and punished victims of domestic violence
By granting clemency, our governor can release many of these vulnerable women to safety with the stroke of a pen. Yet they have refused to do so.
